Meet the Chef

I'm happy you're here! My name is Alex and I'm a passionate creative, from Scotland.

All of the recipes and content you see on my website, Instagram page and YouTube channel are created, photographed, filmed and edited by me from the comfort of my humble kitchen in Glasgow.

Like Butter Wouldn't Melt was born out of lockdown in summer 2020, when I had a lot of time on my hands and an overflow of ideas.

I'd definitely say that my greatest joys in life are my baby girl Mia, and being creative in my kitchen!

My Story

I'm a 26 year old graduate from Edinburgh Napier University. I studied Languages and Intercultural Communication and spent 6 months living in the South of France.

I would say that it was there that I first started delving into the world of home cooking and baking. I was a new found pescatarian and I discovered that there was a distinct lack of plant based cafes and restaurants in Nice (quel surprise).

Unlike in Scotland, they didn't have many plant based alternatives dans les supermarchés either. And even if there was, I would spend an unreasonable amount of time translating labels. So, I took to the kitchen. C'est la vie! I still have A LOT to learn but I've certainly come a long way since then.

My Philosophy

I believe that homemade is always better.

I love feel good foods, whether that's an immune boosting smoothie or an indulgent double chocolate chip cookie.  Treat your body well, which means not depriving yourself of the food that really makes you happy - everything in moderation.

I am a psoriasis sufferer so my skin generally leads the way when it comes to my dietary decisions and over the years I have noticed some correlations between what I eat and my flare ups.

Namely, when I overeat sugars and processed foods my body tends to be very unhappy. I am still experimenting and trying to find out what works best for me.

When it comes to psoriasis, doctors will generally tell you that 'diet has nothing to do with your skin', but you shouldn't believe everything they tell you and I think it's so important to listen to your body. I believe that, with the majority of health problems, you should first look at what you're putting in your body and go down the route of prevention before medication. Diet is the best medicine after all.

Vegan, vegetarian or pescatarian?

All eaters are welcome! My recipes are mostly vegetarian, and sometimes vegan. I also try to avoid dairy if I can, so a lot of my recipes have suggestions on how to make it free from. Overall, I'm basically a vegetarian who doesn't eat much dairy, or you could just call it complicated!

Join me elsewhere!

I'd love it if you followed my journey on Instagram.

I also post regular recipe videos on YouTube which are a very helpful tool to go with the recipes on my website.
